Etymology

Taken from Late Latin and Latin illecebrōsus ("attractive, enticing") plus English -ous (a suffix forming adjectives denoting possession or presence of a quality, commonly in abundance). Illecebrōsus in turn comes from illecebra ("enticement, lure") plus -ōsus (a suffix forming adjectives meaning 'full of'); illecebra comes from illiciō ("to entice, seduce") (itself from in- (a prefix meaning 'in, within') + laciō ("to ensnare, entice")) plus -bra (a suffix forming nouns denoting an instrument).
