The 'provider' in a Discord kitten dynamic — typically older, sends Nitro, Amazon gift cards or actual cash for cutesy DM attention. Almost exclusively used as a punchline; nobody volunteers the title.

A user — stereotypically a young woman or femboy persona — who acts submissive and pet-like in Discord DMs, complete with 'uwu' and cat emojis, in exchange for Nitro, money or gifts from a 'daddy'. The term is almost always used mockingly, not as self-description.

The cultural cliché of a Discord server moderator: chronically online, unpaid, takes the role way too seriously, deletes memes from #general, and threatens bans over typos. Whether or not real mods fit this, the meme is now the default association.

A competitive roast format played in Discord voice chats: two people take turns unloading rapid, often nonsensical, hyper-specific insults until one cracks, goes silent, or gets voted off. The wilder and more cinematic the imagery, the better the pack.

disengage

The opposite of engage. You back off a losing or unfavourable fight without feeding kills. Good disengage tools, slows, walls, speed-ups, let you peace out when the numbers don't work.

disintermediation

General

The removal of intermediaries from a supply chain or transaction so parties deal directly.

disjointed hitbox

Gaming

When a move's hitbox extends beyond the hurtbox, usually on a weapon or a stretched limb, there's nothing there to punish. Your attack beats theirs clean because their dangerous part has no vulnerable part attached.

disney streets

A section of the Midway Hills neighborhood in northwest Dallas where the developers in the 1950s named everything after Walt Disney — think Pinocchio Drive, Cinderella Lane, Snow White, Peter Pan, Wonderland Trail. Now a sought-after mid-century enclave realtors lean on the name hard.

An outfit styled to evoke a Disney character using ordinary fashion pieces rather than a costume, letting adult fans channel a character within park dress codes. Also a verb, 'to Disneybound.'

Nonsense or a foolish thing said or done; talking rubbish.

A radio term instructing the listener to ignore the previous transmission because it was sent in error or is no longer valid.

Specifically in music, to attack a rival in a track (a diss track).

Street

A refined cannabis oil stripped down to a single cannabinoid (usually THC), extremely potent but lacking natural terpene flavor; commonly used in vape carts and edibles.

Low-quality, often wild-growing cannabis with little potency.

A forced landing of an aircraft on water. Usually engine failure, battle damage, or running out of fuel over the sea. The pilot's last decent option short of bailing out.

Same character on both sides. With the toolkits identical, the matchup comes down purely to who plays it better — execution, reads and patience, no character advantage to hide behind. Often the purest test of skill in a bracket.

A signals-intelligence radio operator, especially one who copies Morse code by ear; named for the rhythmic 'dits' and 'dahs.'

General

A foolish or stupid person; short for 'divvy'.

Gaming

A team composition built around mobile heroes that leap into the enemy backline, blow up one target, and get out. Fast, slippery, and a nightmare for snipers.

Street

A diver is a pickpocket, one who 'dives' into pockets to lift wallets and purses.

A form of cheating where a player throws themselves to the ground to win a free kick or penalty that isn't there.

An idiot or fool. One of the all-time Scouse classics. Can be playful ('ya divvy') when ribbing a mate, or genuinely cutting when aimed at someone you actually think is thick. Spread well beyond Liverpool but the city owns it.

A police divisional van used to carry arrested persons.

Stands for "do it yourself," describing something made or done without professional help.

A life-threatening complication of diabetes in which lack of insulin causes high blood sugar and acidic ketones to build up in the blood.

A more tactful shorthand than FLK for a child with an unusual facial appearance.

Tied to 'slide into the DMs,' the playful art of messaging someone privately, often to flirt.

dmca takedown

A formal copyright complaint filed under the US DMCA to force a host or search engine to pull leaked content. Creators either fire them off themselves all day long or pay a takedown service to do it on rotation, because the leaks reappear faster than they vanish.

Stamp of defeat — or self-respect — on a book you couldn't finish. Used as a noun (a DNF), a verb (I DNF'd it) and a Goodreads shelf. Free yourself, life is short.

A line in someone's bio telling certain people not to follow, comment, or DM. Usually a stacked list ('DNI if racist, homophobic, MAP, under 18, pro-AI'). Half boundary-setting, half flag-planting — it signals the kind of space the account wants to be.

A physician order directing staff not to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation if the patient's heart or breathing stops. It reflects the patient's or surrogate's wishes about end-of-life care.

Not a literal request but an exasperated dismissal of something ridiculous.

The modern friend of Dorothy. On Sapphic TikTok around 2020 this became the discreet password for 'are you a woman attracted to women?' Girl in Red — Norwegian artist Marie Ulven — wrote enough wlw love songs that her name turned into a flag. Ask it, and a fellow sapphic clocks you instantly. The classic exchange runs: 'Do you listen to girl in red?' 'No, Sweater Weather.' Translation: 'Are you a lesbian?' 'No, I'm bi.'
