Pulling something off with style — dressing crazy, rapping crazy, balling out, whatever. Detroit usage (Sada Baby, Babyface Ray) leans into the flex: you're not just doing the thing, you're doing it loud enough that everybody has to clock it.

The handshake after the whistle. GG with a little extra respect tacked on — used when the match was actually close, the opponent earned it, or you want to signal you're not salty. Sarcastic when typed after a blowout.

A police helicopter, especially one hovering low over a poor or minority neighbourhood with its searchlight on. Derogatory, born from the experience of being on the wrong end of the spotlight.

Cheap, greasy, no-frills food from neighbourhood spots — fried chicken, wings, taquerias, fish plates, corner-store sandwiches. Affectionate, not an insult. Houston runs on it.

ghetto tate

The poor man's tate. You set the game to vertical mode but, instead of rotating your TV (and risking frying it), you just lie down on your side and rotate yourself. Same effect, zero hardware, mild neck ache.

ghetto youth

A young person raised in the poor inner city; a recurring subject of conscious reggae and dancehall.

ghost goal

A goal awarded (or wrongly disallowed) amid confusion over whether the ball fully crossed the line.

ghost job

A job listing that a company posts without genuine intent to hire, kept up to collect resumes, appear to be growing, or pressure current staff.

ghost peeking

You pop up over a ramp or wall, fire, and drop back before your model even renders on the enemy's screen. They take damage from a player they can't shoot back at. Server-side lag does the dirty work.

ghost restaurant

General

A restaurant that exists only on delivery apps — no storefront, no dine-in, no walk-ups. Often several "brands" share one back-of-house, each with its own menu and Uber Eats / DoorDash listing but the same cooks and same fryer. Boomed during the pandemic; the economics are leaner but the customer relationship is the app's, not yours.

ghost ride the whip

Bay Area hyphy stunt: put the car in drive at walking pace, climb out, and dance alongside or on top of it while it rolls driverless. Mistah F.A.B.'s 'Ghost Ride It' (2006) made it national. Dumb, dangerous, foundational.
