A competitor prized for extreme muscle mass covering nearly every inch of the frame, a look that defined the sport from the 1990s onward.

Originally a slur — Mass(achusetts) + a–hole — aimed at the state's notoriously aggressive drivers by people from neighboring states. Bostonians cheerfully reclaimed it; you'll see it on bumper stickers, hoodies, and craft beer cans. Added to the OED in 2015.

A group, crew or the assembled crowd; DJs hail 'di massive'. Also an adjective meaning respected.

master / slave (m/s)

The deep end of D/s — a consensual relationship organised around ownership and service, where the slave submits to the Master's authority as the relationship's whole structure rather than just a bedroom thing. Often (not always) overlaps with Total Power Exchange and 24/7 dynamics. 'Consensual' is load-bearing: every bit of it is negotiated and agreed, and the slave can always walk. Written M/s, with lowercase 's' to signal the dynamic.

masterly inactivity

The considered strategy of active observation without intervention, letting a condition declare itself; abbreviated MICO ('masterly inactivity and cautious observation').

A single organized post that gathers many links, facts, or resources about an idol or topic, such as a member's fancams or a fandom guide. A staple of stan-Twitter and Tumblr.

Exhausted and beat, or hopelessly bad at something ('está matao en eso'). Literally 'killed'.

A master or top dog — the one who's in charge or the best at what he does. Popularized in Dominican urban music.

An excessive, sometimes off-putting enthusiasm for marriage and weddings that can pressure or alarm a dating partner. It reads as jumping several steps ahead.

Officially flagged on the Metropolitan Police's Gangs Matrix — the controversial London database of suspected gang members. Being matrixed means extra stop-and-search, social-services interest, and a permanent shadow on housing and job checks. Drill MCs wear it as a grim badge and a grievance.

Crafting materials. The ores, herbs, cloth, leather and other components a profession needs to make gear, potions or gold. Players grind, buy or beg for mats constantly.

matter fix

An expression meaning everything is arranged, settled, and ready to go.

maulers

Hands. Black Country / Brummie word, almost always for hands that are big, rough, or being used clumsily. Comes from 'maul' — to handle something roughly — so it carries a built-in eye-roll. You hear it most when someone's grabbing food, kids, or other people's stuff.

Sulky, miserable or given to whining, especially of a child. Yorkshire/Northern dialect.

mauvais langue

Bad-mouthing, slander, or malicious gossip about others. Also 'mauvay langue'.

mawga

Describes a person or animal that is very thin, lean, or meagre. Also 'magga' or 'mauger'.

max out

To do the whole sentence, day for day, walking out the gate on your full release date with no supervised release waiting. Sometimes a choice — guys would rather max out than deal with parole conditions that send you back for missing curfew.

Maxed in a skill means you've hit 99, the cap. A maxed account means 99 in all of them — the 2277 total and the cape to prove it.

maxi

Short for maximalist — someone who believes one specific cryptocurrency will dominate and that all others are scams, distractions, or 'shitcoins'. Bitcoin maxis are the loudest and most numerous, but Ethereum maxis, Solana maxis and Monero maxis all exist. The defining trait is purity-testing: alts are not just bad investments, they're moral failings.

A person, typically a Bitcoin maximalist, who holds that one cryptocurrency is the only one worth supporting and dismisses the rest as unnecessary or fraudulent.

A suffix meaning to obsessively optimize one particular part of your life — attach it to almost anything (moneymaxxing, sleepmaxxing, gymmaxxing) to describe going all-in on improving it.

An internationally recognized radiotelephony distress signal declaring grave and imminent danger requiring immediate assistance; spoken three times, it takes priority over all other traffic.

mayne hol'up

The Houston pump-the-brakes. Equal parts surprise, disbelief and 'rewind that'. Stretched out so the 'mayne' lands first and the 'hol'up' catches you mid-thought.

mazel tov

The whole room yells it the instant glass or china hits the floor. Half jeer, half tradition, lifted from the Jewish wedding custom of shouting 'mazel tov' after the groom stomps the glass. In a restaurant it's how the kitchen tells the poor bastard they're not the first and won't be the last.

My girlfriend or partner. 'Bird' is general British slang for a woman or girlfriend, but 'me bird' lands properly Scouse with the dropped 'y'. Fond rather than dismissive — usually said with affection.
