Extremely tired; of an object, broken or ruined.

To leave; a mildly rude command to go away.

The neon-bright powdered fruit drink served on the mess deck — basically institutional Kool-Aid. Comes in violent reds, oranges, greens. Universally loved and mocked in the same breath; the running gag is that the same stuff in your cup is used to clean the deck tiles.

A split-bolt wire connector — the chunky brass or copper clamp electricians use to tap or splice large-gauge conductors. Called a 'bug' because the body kind of looks like a beetle once it's wrapped up in rubber and tape. You'll hear sparkies ask for 'a bug and some 33' (Scotch 33 tape).

You feed the next command in early, while a move or animation is still playing, and the game holds it in its input buffer until it's allowed to execute. Result: frame-perfect links and cancels without inhuman timing.

The combined manoeuvre of making a patient look well worked-up ('buff') and then transferring them to another service ('turf').

Describes a person, place, or situation with good vibes or a friendly attitude.

buckley's chance

Almost no chance at all; often just 'Buckley's'.

The upscale district on Atlanta's north side. Lenox Square, Phipps Plaza, Tongue & Groove, the gated streets where the labels live. When a rapper says Buckhead, they're flexing the postcode.

A native of Ohio (the Buckeye State), also a peanut-butter ball dipped in chocolate to resemble the buckeye nut.

A term for made baskets, or points in general; calling someone 'buckets' means they score at will.

The CB pest. A 'bucket mouth' is the operator who hogs the channel, talks over everyone, runs his mouth nonstop and won't let go of the mic. Every channel has one. Picture pouring sound out of a bucket — that's the vibe. Said with full contempt.

A scoring specialist who reliably gets buckets in a variety of ways.

A single made field goal. Also used for the basket/hoop itself.

A sergeant at the E-5 pay grade, the junior of the sergeant ranks; 'buck' connotes the entry level of the grade.

buck rogers time

When the year you're eligible for parole is so far in the future it feels like a sci-fi setting. Named for the pulp-era space hero who woke up in the 25th century. Used grimly — if you're doing Buck Rogers time, nobody's joking.
