A rhetorical demand for an explanation of something that makes no sense.

Cajun-French baby talk for going to bed, used the same way English speakers say 'night-night.' Said to children, but also slipped into adult speech across Acadiana. The classic Cajun lullaby is 'Fais Do Do,' which doubles as the name for a Cajun dance party — historically thrown after the kids were put to sleep.

A Hawaiian directional word meaning toward the sea, the opposite of mauka (toward the mountains). Used to give directions along the coast.

The number of calories at which bodyweight stays roughly stable, neither gaining nor losing; the baseline that bulks add to and cuts subtract from. Also called TDEE.

main character syndrome

A diagnosis people throw at anyone behaving as if their daily life is a prestige TV show and strangers are supporting cast. Romanticising a coffee run is harmless. Filming someone in public because they're 'ruining your scene' is the dark version. The term flips the wholesome 'be the main character of your own story' TikTok trend into an insult.

main character of the day

The user who has involuntarily become the day's protagonist on Twitter/X — usually because they posted something so bad, so smug, or so wrong that the whole timeline is quote-tweeting them. Slot resets daily. The unwritten rule: do not be it.

The public-facing account. Real handle, real friends, posts your nan might see. The one you protect — anything cursed goes on the burner.

The daily moment when officers hand out letters and packages; a high point of the routine.
