Online, being 'redpilled' means waking up to some supposedly suppressed truth — originally about dating dynamics on Reddit's r/TheRedPill, now applied to politics, diet, finance, anything. Sincere in some corners, deeply ironic in others.

reddit switcharoo

The classic Reddit gag where a commenter posts a misdirection link — usually phrased 'hold my X' — that takes you to a previous switcharoo comment, which links to the one before it, and so on. Click and you're falling down a chain stretching back years.

reddit hug of death

The phenomenon where a small server gets so much sudden traffic from a popular Reddit post that it falls over and serves errors. Affectionate framing — Reddit loves you so much it kills you.

Reddit's flagship premium award. Other users could spend real money to gift it to your comment, which gave you a month of ad-free Reddit and a little gold star next to your post. For years it was the platform's main 'this comment slaps' signal — far weightier than an upvote.

To tidy or clear away; 'redd up' means clean up or set to rights.
